LEHIGH VALLEY SECTION Happy birthday, Nicholson Bridge The Nicholson Bridge, an ASCE-designated National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, commemorates its centennial this year. The bridge is the world’s largest reinforced concrete railroad span. The Pennsylvania borough of Nicholson celebrated the bridge’s birthday with a weekend of events in September. DELAWARE SECTION UD professor ‘ELATE’d by new honor University of Delaware professor of civil and environmental engineering Rachel Davidson, A.M.ASCE, has been selected for the Executive Leadership in Academic Technology and Engineering program’s class of 2015-16 fellows. The ELATE program at Drexel University in Philadelphia seeks to boost the leadership skills among women faculty in the STEM fields. Davidson is one of only 31 women nationwide selected as a fellow. MARYLAND SECTION Baltimore-area water resources engineer earns Fellow honors William H. Frost, P.E., D.WRE, F.ASCE, a senior associate with Baltimore-area KCI Technologies Inc. in their water resources practice, has been elected a Fellow by ASCE’s Board of Direction. Frost has more than 25 years of experience in watershed planning and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System MS4 permitting, in both the public and private sectors, and has master of science degrees in civil engineering from the University of Maryland and in urban planning from Johns Hopkins University. NATIONAL CAPITAL SECTION National Hydraulic Engineer named ASCE Fellow Claudia C. Hoeft, P.E., F.ASCE, an expert hydraulic engineer, has been elevated to the status of Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction. Hoeft is the National Hydraulic Engineer at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, in Washington, DC. Read more about what made her worthy of Fellow status. |
