ASK COUNSELOR TARA
ASCE’s General Counsel Tara Hoke clarifies legal questions facing sections and branches here each month. Send Tara an email with your question.
How do we go about proving we’re insured for rental spaces?
Volunteer leaders negotiating to rent space on behalf of an ASCE entity for a dinner, gala, private restaurant event, or exhibit booth are often asked to provide insurance coverage to the venue hosting the event. In most cases, this can be done using ASCE’s existing insurance coverage – which provides coverage to ASCE’s sections, branches, younger member groups, student and institute chapters, committees, and all other entities under the ASCE umbrella.

Volunteers seeking proof of coverage can submit a form requesting a certificate of insurance from ASCE’s insurance broker. The form can be submitted by email and requires just a few simple answers about the type and sponsor of the event. If required under the terms of the event’s rental agreement, other parties (such as the host venue or its ownership) can be listed as “additional insureds” on ASCE’s insurance.

For a copy of this form, please contact ASCE’s legal department or Global Geographic Services team.
