Western Regional Younger Member Council comes to Phoenix

Leaders of ASCE’s Younger Member Forums in Regions 8 and 9 gathered in Phoenix for the 2014 Western Regional Younger Member Council conference, where they took a break from session work for a group photo. Highlights included a keynote address by ASCE At-Large Director James Rispoli of the Industry Leaders Council, and an unofficial “pub crawl” with each stop accessed via Phoenix’s light rail system. The Phoenix Branch YMF was host for the conference, with support from the overall Arizona Section.  Branch website>> 


UTAH SECTION
Utah’s I-15 corridor expansion a finalist for Society’s 2014 OCEA award

The massive I-15 Corridor Expansion Project known as I-15 CORE  in Utah’s Utah County is one of five finalists for ASCE’s 2014 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award. I-15 CORE reconstructed and widened 24 miles of freeway by two lanes in each direction; replaced the original asphalt with new 40-year concrete pavement and rebuilt or replaced 63 bridges and 10 interchanges. The OCEA will be revealed March 20 at ASCE’s Outstanding Projects and Leaders Gala in Washington, DC. Oregon State student named to 2014 New Faces of Civil Engineering – College Edition

Kristina Milaj of Oregon State University, an active volunteer with Engineers Without Borders USA, has been named one of ASCE’s 10 New Faces of Civil Engineering – College Edition for 2014.  A native of Albania, Milaj went to Kenya in 2012 as part of an EWB-USA team that helped install a hand-pumped community well.  She also serves as the OSU ASCE student chapter executive chair.   Learn more>>  Section website>>
